Glasgow

Eat

In line with its artsy independent atmosphere, Glasgow restaurants tend to have their own identity and their own décor. There are many independent cafes, bakeries, pubs, and restaurants in the center and Northwest Glasgow, around Great Western Road.

Glasgow also has a big vegetarian and vegan selection, such as Stereo (Central Glasgow, which doubles as a club at night), the V&V Café (North West Glasgow), Mono (east side of center, very artsy, service can be slow), 13th Note (east side of center, artsy), and Kind Crusts (café in East End).

Transport

Glasgow has a single circular subway line that can be taken in either direction. Single tickets are around $2.

The subway gets you around most sights and most of the center. For other locations, trains and buses are good options (again costing about $2 for a single fare). Tickets can be bought on board. Failing that, Uber has a strong presence as well.

Airport: There are several buses going to and from Glasgow Airport. First buses are the most regular and convenient, but also the most expensive at around $8. Stagecoach and McGill's Bus service charge around half the price.

Sights

  • Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum: a grand museum with a collection ranging from art and natural history to ethnography.
  • The Kelvingrove area is also blessed with Kelvingrove Park, the grand buildings of Glasgow University, and various other museums such as the Riverside Museum, the Zoology Museum, and the Hunterian Art Gallery.
  • Gallery of Modern Art (right in the middle of the center): museum containing modern art
  • Have a stroll at George Square & around to explore Glasgow’s grand architecture.
  • Glasgow Cathedral and Necropolis: a grand cathedral and grand cemetery overseeing the city.
